2009 marks 10 years out of high school and therefore the comparison of the question “Where do you picture yourself 10 years from now” with where I am today relative to graduating high school must be proposed. Frankly I’m far off from where I had hoped and it’s about time I take action to get my life back on track.
Therefore since we’re at least still in January here are my goals for 2009:
- Lose 15 pounds by the middle of the summer and maintain that weight
- Finish my MS at RIT and graduate
- Start at least one website/business from my long list of overdue ideas
- Flip a house or buy a rental property
- Digitize my family photos (thanks for inspiration Randy)
In all honesty the above list should have been completed about 3 years ago, but alas there is where I am at.
I watched an hour long interview between Charlie Rose and Bill Gates this morning. I enjoyed it as Bill Gates is quite the man. Below are some highlights from the interview that I thought of worthy interest:
- Bill states that in the next 5 years Microsoft will integrate Microsoft Office with electronic multi-touch whiteboards. I’m personally looking forward to this.
- Bill is surprised it has taken TV so long to make it to the internet as Microsoft has been in that research area for the past 15 years.
- Since Bill is no longer CEO of Microsoft, he has more time to dedicate towards the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and his personal learning. One of the most satisfactory courses he has taken was watching “Big History” by David Christian.
- Whenever he runs on the treadmill either watches documentaries, video courses/lectures, or works on the computer.
Ironically the last bullet about the treadmill is something I wanted to adopt for 2009, as I believe one of the main reasons I don’t workout and exercise like I should is because I feel like I’m not being productive during that time, therefore it is wasteful.
Bill Gates is a great man and I feel that he is in a unique position right now to have an impact greater than that of Microsoft.
One of the services I have been using stopped service a month of two ago with a “more info to come” statement on the page. The other day I noticed Muxtape had a long story posted on their site about their story with the RIAA and record labels. Quite a worthwhile read. Its a bit long but well worth your time.
I’ve been amazingly busy over the course of the last month and been out of town quite a bit. So for those of you who I haven’t talked to, thought I would give a quick run down (since I loved to the point bullet lists) of what I’ve been doing:
-
Traveled to Ohio, then Greensboro, GA to watch my brother play in a PGA tournament. He was the youngest player in the field and although did not do well enough to make it on the PGA tour this fall, he still did quite well. I got to meet up with Walter in Atlanta while I was down there as well. It was fun and the area was gorgeous.
- Traveled to NYC for the weekend to visit Sanjay and some friends, it was great as always.
Traveled to Buffalo, NY for the 4th of July to meet up with the college crew (Pete, Joe, Greg, Walter, etc.). I was surprised of all the development going on down at the waterfront downtown, it looks really nice. Additionally got to tour some battleships and a submarine.
- Went to East End Fest and snagged a great picture of the atmosphere with some cool night sky in the background.
Went to the Sterling Renesaince Festival for the first time with a group of friends, followed by Marge’s, followed by Tullys. It was a long, tiring, great day.
Traveled to Foxwoods Resort Casino, did gambling with the end result unfortunately being in the red not block, and spent the night. We got to see the Penthouse in the MGM Grand that just recently opened, it was p-i-m-p. The following day we went to Boston, MA where we hung out more with Steve and also I got to meet up with Adam who I used to work with and recently moved to Boston.
- Lots of motorcycle riding
- Lots of drinking
- A beer social at Tap and Mallet
- Started trading stocks
- Working on my golf game at the range
- Finally got my Google Reader unread items under control (I was over 1000 behind due to never being online or having time to check it regularly).
Ten Ugly Men Festival
- Eddie Money concert
Well, I believe that’s all that I think is worthwhile to point out. Next weekend I’m looking forward to Ten Ugly Men and a weekend around home to hopefully get lots of chores and work done.

Here is another wrap up of all the things I can think of going on in the Rochester area for summer 2008:
I’ll try to get these in calendar form, but for now this should get things started. Please comment to this post if there is anything I am missing. Some of this information is hard to find.
I was at the Sprint RIT Career Fair on Wednesday representing West. It’s always a fun time to go back and keep in touch with students and things going on at campus. This was one of the largest years yet and we were kept busy most of the day.
